Best email provider for…

Start from the job. Every pick comes with the reason, taken from the sourced facts. We don't score email providers, so nothing here is a ranking by opinion.

Best email provider for your own domain

Email at you@yourname.com: what each provider charges per year for it, how many domains you get, and whether it works in your mail app.

Most private email provider

Providers that can't read your stored mail, what they still can see, and what you give up for it (usually standard IMAP).

Best free email provider

Free plans compared by storage, ads, mail-app access and what you trade for them.

Best email for families and households

Plans that cover several people: price per year, people included, and whether everyone gets their own mailbox.

Best Gmail alternatives

Where to go from Gmail, depending on why you're leaving: ads, privacy, your own domain or one company holding everything.

Best email provider based in the EU

Providers headquartered and storing mail inside the European Union, with what each costs and what it encrypts.

Cheapest email that works in Apple Mail and Outlook

Paid plans with standard IMAP, so you can use the mail app you already have, ordered by price per year in each currency.

There's no "best overall". The right email provider depends on whether you want your own domain, which mail app you use and who you'd rather trust with your mail.
